New expert opinion on the death of Zbigniew Ziobro's father

The case of the death of Jerzy Ziobro, father of former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro, has stirred great emotions in Poland for years. Recently, experts from the University Center of Legal Medicine in Lausanne, Switzerland, presented a new medical opinion. This document sheds new light on the patient's treatment process at a Krakow hospital in 2006.

Jerzy Ziobro was admitted to the University Hospital in Krakow at the end of June 2006 with cardiological problems. Doctors then decided to perform procedures to widen the blood vessels, known as stenting. Unfortunately, despite the actions taken, the patient died shortly after the operations. From the beginning, the Ziobro family believed that serious medical errors occurred during the treatment.

In their latest opinion, the Swiss experts indicated that the doctors could have chosen a different treatment method. According to the Lausanne experts, bypass surgery would have been more beneficial for Jerzy Ziobro than the use of stents. The specialists assessed that the patient's state of health and the advanced stage of his heart disease required a more radical surgical procedure.

The court trial in this case has been ongoing for nearly two decades. The family of the deceased accused four doctors of exposing the patient to the direct danger of loss of life. Over the years, courts have questioned many witnesses and analyzed numerous medical opinions from Poland and abroad, yet the case has still not reached a final conclusion.

The new opinion from Switzerland is a very important piece of evidence in this long-standing dispute. It may influence the final court verdict, which must decide whether the doctors actually committed an error that led to the patient's death. This case is closely followed by the public, as it concerns not only the family of a well-known politician but also the standards of medical care in Poland.
