Poland extends border controls with Germany and Lithuania
The European Commission has announced that Polish authorities have decided to extend temporary controls at the internal borders with Germany and Lithuania. This decision is dictated by the need to ensure security and limit illegal migration into the country.
Border controls with European Union neighbors were introduced within the Schengen Area. Although, in principle, travel between member states should take place without document checks, EU regulations allow for the temporary restoration of controls in situations involving threats to public order or national security.
Border services will continue random checks of vehicles and individuals entering Poland. These measures aim to more effectively combat human smuggling and detect individuals who do not possess the appropriate permits to stay in the Schengen Area. Authorities assure that they are striving to keep inconveniences for travelers to a minimum.
The extension of these measures is being monitored by EU institutions. Poland remains in constant contact with the European Commission, providing updates on the current situation at the borders. Similar steps have been taken by other European countries in recent months, which shows that the issue of border controls remains an important topic across the entire Union.
Those planning to travel by car or coach across the border with Germany or Lithuania should remember to carry a valid national ID card or passport. It is also worth checking the latest announcements from border services before departure to avoid potential delays.
