Controversy surrounding the selection of the new First President of the Supreme Court
President Karol Nawrocki has made an important decision regarding the justice system in Poland. He has appointed Judge Zbigniew Kapiński to the position of First President of the Supreme Court. However, this nomination has sparked strong emotions and become a subject of heated political discussion in the country.
One of the main critics of this decision is Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Law and Justice. He expressed his strong dissatisfaction on social media. Kaczyński believes that a judge who participated in the lustration process of Lech Wałęsa in 2000 should not hold such an important function in the state.
Historian Sławomir Cenckiewicz also spoke out against the nomination. Like the PiS leader, he points to Judge Kapiński's past and his role in cases concerning Poland's recent history. Critics claim that the verdict in the Wałęsa case years ago was controversial, which affects the current assessment of the judge.
On the other hand, supporters of the president's decision emphasize Zbigniew Kapiński's high competence and professional experience. President Karol Nawrocki himself believes that the judge is the right person to lead the Supreme Court. However, this situation shows clear divisions within a political environment that until now often spoke with one voice.
Currently, the situation surrounding the Supreme Court remains tense. The dispute over the new president shows how difficult personnel decisions are in the Polish judiciary. In the near future, it will become clear how this change will affect the work of the most important court in Poland and the relations between the most important politicians in the state.
