Europe is building its own payment system. Will Poland join the project?

Advanced work is underway in Europe to create a new, independent electronic payment system. The project, called EPI (European Payments Initiative), aims to make the European financial market independent of the dominance of American giants such as Visa and Mastercard. The new system is intended to be fast, secure, and accessible to all residents of the European Union.

Currently, the largest banks from countries such as Germany, France, and Spain are participating in the initiative. The goal of the project is to introduce a digital wallet that will allow for convenient payments in stores, online, and for instant transfers between users across Europe. The system's creators want it to become the standard for Europeans' everyday purchases.

Although the project is of great importance to the entire community, Poland currently remains outside the mainstream of these efforts. Polish banks, which have been developing their own highly modern payment solutions for years, have not yet decided to fully commit to EPI. Experts point out that our market is already very well developed technologically, which makes Polish financial institutions approach new proposals with great caution.

However, this situation may change in the future. Representatives of the European project emphasize that the door remains open for further partners. For Polish customers, potentially joining the system could mean even easier payments during foreign travel within the European Union.

At this moment, Polish consumers will not feel any changes in their daily payments. The financial industry in Poland, however, will closely monitor the development of EPI to assess whether joining this system would bring real benefits to the domestic banking sector and users of cards and mobile applications.
