Ukraine has granted permission for the exhumation of World War II victims
The Ukrainian authorities have made an important decision regarding the history of Polish-Ukrainian relations. Ukrainian offices have issued an official permit to conduct exhumation work in the former village of Huta Pieniacka. This site is associated with tragic events from the period of World War II, during which Polish civilians were killed.
The exhumations aim to locate and provide a dignified burial for the remains of victims who have rested in unmarked locations for decades. These efforts are a significant step in the process of commemorating those murdered during the conflict. The Polish side has been seeking the opportunity to conduct research in this region for years in order to pay tribute to the deceased.
This decision is seen as a gesture of goodwill that could influence the improvement of historical dialogue between Warsaw and Kyiv. Experts emphasize that clarifying difficult matters from the past is crucial for building good relations between neighboring nations in the future.
Preparations for the start of fieldwork are currently underway. Specialists from Poland will cooperate with Ukrainian partners to conduct the research in accordance with applicable regulations and with due respect for the victims. The entire process will be monitored by the relevant state institutions of both countries.
