Beware of fake SMS messages: Patient data leak in Poland

In recent days, many patients in Poland have received disturbing SMS messages. The content of the messages suggests that there has been a leak of medical data from healthcare systems. Recipients are asked to urgently check their information on a special website, to which the link included in the message leads.

Cybersecurity experts warn that these messages are a phishing scam. Criminals are impersonating state institutions to phish for bank account login credentials or to gain access to users' digital identities. Clicking on the sent link may lead to your phone being infected with malware.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs and the CERT Polska team remind the public that official institutions never send messages with login links regarding data leaks. All information about the security status of medical systems is published exclusively on official government websites, such as gov.pl or pacjent.gov.pl.

If you have received a suspicious message, do not open the link and do not provide any personal data. The safest solution is to delete the SMS and block the number from which it was sent. It is also worth reporting the incident to the CERT Polska team, which helps in the fight against cybercrime in our country.
