Government fights medical disinformation: new powers for the Patient Ombudsman
The Polish government has adopted a draft of new regulations aimed at combating dangerous medical practices. These changes grant the Patient Ombudsman greater authority to fight disinformation and so-called pseudomedical therapies that may threaten the health and lives of citizens.
Currently, many offers for medical services that lack scientific backing are appearing on the internet and social media. The new law will allow officials to react more quickly to such cases. The Patient Ombudsman will be able to more effectively monitor the market and take action against individuals and companies promoting unverified treatment methods.
Experts have long warned about the growing popularity of harmful health advice. Many people, instead of seeking professional medical care, opt for expensive and ineffective therapies. The new regulations are intended to protect patients from fraud and ensure they have access to reliable medical knowledge.
The draft bill will now proceed to further work in parliament. If adopted, it will be an important step toward increasing the health security of Poles. The government emphasizes that the fight against false medical information is a priority in the interest of public health in the country.
