Government plans changes to VAT for e-commerce
The Polish government has begun work on new regulations concerning VAT in the e-commerce sector. The changes aim to tighten the tax system and align Polish regulations with European Union guidelines. The new rules are expected to affect the way online transactions are settled.
Experts point out that the main goal of the changes is to combat unfair competition and level the playing field between local sellers and large-scale online entities. The new regulations are intended to make the tax payment process more transparent for entrepreneurs and safer for buyers.
The draft law includes the introduction of new reporting obligations for sales platforms. This will give tax authorities better insight into foreign transactions, which is intended to limit tax avoidance. For many companies, this means the need to update accounting systems and adapt to new legal requirements.
Government representatives emphasize that the changes are necessary for the Polish e-commerce market to develop in a stable and predictable manner. Consumers should not feel the direct effects of these regulations in product prices; however, for sellers, the coming months will be a time of intensive preparation for implementing the new procedures.
Currently, the draft is at the consultation stage. Entrepreneurs and industry organizations have time to submit their comments on the proposed changes. The final shape of the regulations will be known after the completion of legislative work in parliament.
