Pfizer takes legal action against Poland over vaccines
The pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced on Monday that it has begun efforts to enforce a Belgian court ruling against Poland. The case concerns the Polish government's failure to fulfill orders for COVID-19 vaccines that were placed during the pandemic.
As part of these actions, Pfizer has attempted to seize funds belonging to the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency. This is a direct consequence of an earlier ruling by a court in Belgium, which found the vaccine manufacturer's claims to be justified in light of the lack of payment for delivered or ordered preparations.
The dispute between Poland and Pfizer has been ongoing for some time and is the result of the Polish authorities' decision to stop accepting further shipments of vaccines. The government argued at the time that the epidemic situation in the country had improved significantly and that further purchases were unjustified from the perspective of health needs and the budget.
The current situation presents a legal and financial challenge for Polish state authorities. Representatives of the government and relevant institutions are now analyzing options to appeal the court's decision and protect the assets of state agencies from bailiff seizure.
At this moment, it is unknown how long the enforcement process will take and whether it will affect the operations of the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency. Both parties to the dispute have not yet provided detailed comments regarding further legal steps that could lead to an amicable resolution of the conflict.
