Poland plans to introduce a new tax for tech giants
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has published a draft of new regulations that propose the introduction of a special tax for the largest global technology companies operating in Poland. According to the proposal, these corporations would pay a 3% tax on their revenue generated in the Polish market.
The goal of this initiative is to level the playing field between international giants and local businesses. Currently, many large technology companies pay relatively low taxes in Poland because they report their profits in countries with more favorable tax systems. The government wants companies that use Polish digital infrastructure and the data of Polish users to contribute to the costs of maintaining the state.
The draft bill is generating significant interest among experts and representatives of the IT industry. Supporters of the solution argue that it is a fair step toward Poland's digital sovereignty. Conversely, opponents warn that the additional financial burdens could be passed on to customers in the form of higher prices for digital services or subscriptions.
For now, the proposal is at the consultation stage. The Ministry of Digital Affairs is awaiting feedback from interested parties to refine the details of the draft before sending it for further work in parliament. If the bill enters into force, Poland will join the group of European countries that have already implemented similar tax solutions for the digital sector.
