Poland on high alert following massive Russian attack on Ukraine
Overnight from Sunday to Monday, Russia carried out one of the largest air attacks on Ukrainian territory. In response to these actions, the Polish military took immediate steps to secure the country's borders. The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported that all necessary security procedures had been activated.
Polish and allied fighter jets appeared over Polish airspace. The decision to scramble the fighters was necessary to monitor the situation in the zones adjacent to the border with Ukraine. Ground-based air defense systems and radars, which tracked the flight trajectory of Russian drones and missiles throughout the night, were also put on full alert.
Russia's intense attack targeted Ukraine's critical infrastructure, including energy facilities. Due to the proximity of the hostilities, Polish services had to be prepared for a potential violation of the state border. Although the situation was very dynamic, the Polish military assured that the border remained secure and that all systems functioned according to plan.
Currently, the situation in Polish airspace has returned to normal, and the heightened alert status has been lifted. The Polish Armed Forces emphasize that they are constantly monitoring the activity of the Russian air force and are ready to react at any moment. Residents of border areas are not under direct threat, though the situation across the eastern border remains under constant observation by Polish authorities.
