Serious train accident: PKP provides initial loss estimates
A dangerous incident occurred on a railway line where an electric locomotive and the first two carriages of a passenger train derailed. At the time of the accident, at least 114 people were traveling on the train, including three children. Emergency services immediately began operations to secure the scene and provide assistance to the injured passengers.
Representatives of PKP have provided the first information regarding the consequences of the disaster. In addition to the destruction of railway infrastructure, the financial losses caused by the train derailment are estimated at millions of zlotys. The damage to the tracks and the machine itself is so severe that repairs could take many weeks.
Experts and a special commission are currently working at the scene of the accident to determine the causes of the situation. Investigators are checking, among other things, the technical condition of the train and the correct operation of traffic control systems. Until the investigation is completed, traffic on this section of the route remains suspended.
The railway infrastructure manager has announced the introduction of replacement transport for travelers using this connection. Passengers are asked to check current timetables in mobile applications and on the carrier's websites.
