Case regarding CPAC Poland funding to be heard by the Supreme Court
A significant turn of events has occurred in the case of the controversial transfer of 1.2 million PLN from the Subcarpathian Voivodeship budget for the organization of the CPAC Poland conference in Jasionka. The court has decided to refer the case to the Supreme Court, meaning that the matter will be resolved at the highest level of the Polish judiciary.
The dispute concerns the expenditure of public funds on a political event. The CPAC Poland organization, which took place in Jasionka, stirred emotions among local residents and opposition politicians from the very beginning. The main point of contention is whether the local government had the right to allocate such a large sum from the voivodeship budget to support this specific undertaking.
The decision to refer the case to the Supreme Court is the result of legal doubts that arose during the trial. The lower court determined that the case is of a precedent-setting nature and requires a ruling by Supreme Court judges to establish whether there was a violation of regulations concerning the spending of public money.
Currently, the public and political observers are awaiting the scheduling of a hearing date. The Supreme Court's verdict will be of key importance not only for the authorities of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship but may also influence future decisions by other local governments regarding the funding of similar events across the country.
