Beware of scams: Criminals are exploiting the popularity of ChatGPT

Experts from CERT Polska are warning against a new wave of phishing attacks targeting Polish internet users. Cybercriminals are increasingly using the image of the popular artificial intelligence tool, ChatGPT, to extort personal data and money from unsuspecting individuals.

The scammers' modus operandi is usually similar. Users receive emails that appear to be official correspondence related to ChatGPT services. The content of the message contains a link that is supposed to lead to an alleged software update or a special offer. In reality, the link directs users to a fake website designed to steal login credentials or infect the computer with malicious software.

Cybersecurity specialists emphasize that criminals are very effective at impersonating well-known brands to gain the trust of recipients. It is worth remembering that official communications from the creators of ChatGPT do not contain suspicious links leading to external sites that require the submission of confidential data or payment card numbers.

To avoid data theft, experts recommend exercising extreme caution when opening messages from unknown senders. Before clicking on any link, it is worth carefully checking the sender's email address and the address of the website to which you are being redirected. In case of any doubt, it is best to use only the official website of the tool's manufacturer.

Online security depends largely on our vigilance. If you receive a suspicious message, do not open attachments and do not enter your passwords on sites you are not sure about. Remember that reporting such incidents to CERT Polska helps protect other users from similar threats.
