Starlink systems in Ukraine are operational, but Poland wants to build its own independent network | Integri News

Starlink satellite systems, provided by the company SpaceX, are once again operating without disruption in Ukraine. This technology plays a key role in maintaining military and civilian communications during the ongoing armed conflict. Although these systems are currently essential, the situation has sparked a discussion about digital security in Europe.

Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, emphasized in recent statements that Poland cannot rely solely on solutions provided by private foreign companies. In his view, dependence on a single satellite service provider poses a potential risk to national security in crisis situations.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs has announced that Poland will strive to create its own independent satellite communications network. Such a system would provide the state with full control over data transmission and resilience against potential failures or political decisions made by foreign corporations.

The project to build its own infrastructure is currently in the early planning stages. Experts point out that investment in space technologies and proprietary satellites is costly, but necessary in the face of modern hybrid threats. Poland plans to cooperate with other European Union countries to strengthen European technological sovereignty.

The decision to build its own network is an important step toward increasing the country's security. In the coming months, the government is expected to present a detailed financing plan and a schedule for work on this strategic undertaking.
