Important scientific project: University of Gdańsk studies the mental health of young mothers
The University of Gdańsk has launched significant research concerning the mental health of women in the postpartum period. The project, titled "Before the Fall: Maternal Mental Health and Suicide in Poland," aims to better understand the problems faced by new mothers in our country.
Experts emphasize that the period after a child's birth is a time of major hormonal and emotional changes. Unfortunately, for many women, it is also a moment of deep crisis. Research indicates that suicidal thoughts and attempts are among the most serious warning signs that require an immediate response from those around them and from specialists.
Dr. hab. Magdalena Chrzan-Dętkoś, who leads the project, points out the need for open conversation about the difficult emotions that accompany motherhood. The goal of the researchers is not only to analyze data, but above all to develop effective support methods that will help prevent tragedies in Polish families.
The results of this research may contribute to changing the way the healthcare system in Poland approaches the mental health of women after childbirth. Understanding the scale of the problem is the first step toward creating a better support network for mothers in need of psychological assistance.
