Poland and the World: From Border Tensions to Important Decisions in the Sejm
The most important reports concern security in the region. Russia is intensively expanding its military bases along the border with NATO countries. According to an analysis by Scandinavian and Estonian media, Moscow plans to station as many as 115,000 soldiers there after the end of the war in Ukraine. New units are being established, among others, near the borders with Finland and the Baltic states.
In the face of these threats, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhij Tykhyi, issued a special appeal to Poles. He asks for seeking reasons for unity in shared history, rather than conflicts. He emphasized that Poland and Ukraine should cooperate to effectively oppose the common enemy, instead of focusing on old disputes.
There was also a heated atmosphere in the Polish Sejm. MPs rejected a motion for a vote of no confidence against the Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński. During the debate, Prime Minister Donald Tusk delivered a powerful speech. In it, he warned against a growing wave of aggression in the media and politics, which in his opinion humiliates patriotic Poles and harms the country's image.
Historical topics sparked further emotions. President Andrzej Duda firmly denied information from Professor Grzegorz Motyka. The historian suggested that there was an agreement according to which the president was to remain silent on the Volhynia massacre. Duda called these claims untrue. At the same time, the Court of Appeal in Krakow banned Grzegorz Braun from lying about the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum after the politician denied the existence of gas chambers.
On the international stage, Donald Trump is drawing attention. The former US president stated that the Iranian military is in disarray and the authorities in Tehran will have to pay for their actions. Trump called the situation in Iran chaos and announced that "the tyrant of the Middle East is dead," referring to recent political changes in the region.
An important visit by a Polish politician to Washington will also take place soon. Preparations are underway for Karol Nawrocki's trip to the USA. One of the program points is to be a UFC martial arts gala, which will take place at the White House. This event is part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States and is intended to highlight the close relations between the two countries.
A dangerous accident occurred in Małopolska. A teenager from Nowy Targ was bitten by a Levantine viper. This is a very dangerous snake, the breeding of which is strictly prohibited in Poland. Doctors from a Krakow hospital had to fight a real race against time to save the boy's life in the intensive care unit.
Finally, sad news from Mazovia. Services in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki received a report of an unconscious person on a playground on Młodzieżowa Street. After arriving at the scene, the police and ambulance confirmed that the man found was dead. An explanation of the circumstances of this tragic event is currently underway.
