Lithuanian Defense Minister warns: Russia may threaten Poland and the Baltic states
Lithuanian Minister of National Defense, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, has issued a grave warning regarding security in our region. According to the Lithuanian politician, Russia's current difficulties on the front line in Ukraine may prompt Moscow to seek new targets. There is a risk that the Kremlin will decide to expand the conflict, which would directly threaten the security of the Baltic states and Poland.
According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, Russian failures in Ukraine do not mean that the threat is diminishing. On the contrary—frustration among authorities in the Kremlin could lead to aggressive actions against NATO neighbors. The minister emphasized that the Russian army is constantly adapting to the situation, and its plans may include destabilizing the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Security experts have long pointed to the importance of the so-called Suwałki Gap. This is a strategic area connecting Poland with Lithuania, which could become a key flashpoint in the event of a conflict. Authorities in Warsaw and Vilnius are working together regularly to strengthen the protection of this region and increase the combat readiness of their units.
The situation on NATO's eastern border remains the subject of constant intelligence analysis. Poland, together with regional partners, continues to modernize its military and strengthen cooperation with allies. The goal of these actions is to deter a potential aggressor and ensure the safety of citizens in the face of an uncertain geopolitical situation.
