Red Cross warns of increase and long duration of conflicts worldwide
The Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Pierre Krähenbühl, issued an important warning about the current global situation. According to the leader, the world faces a worrying scenario due to the combination of two factors: the emergence of new wars and the fact that old conflicts are lasting much longer.
Krähenbühl explained that this reality creates unprecedented pressure on humanitarian organizations. When wars drag on for decades, the needs of civilian populations become more complex, requiring constant aid for access to basic items such as water, food, and medical care.
One of the central points of the director's message is the frequent violation of international humanitarian law. He highlighted that the rules established to protect civilians during wars are being ignored in various places, which increases the suffering of millions of people who are not part of the fighting.
Furthermore, the head of the Red Cross expressed concern about what he called an "anesthetized" world. For him, international society seems to be becoming indifferent or accustomed to news of violence, which makes it difficult to mobilize resources and the political support necessary to resolve crises.
To conclude, Pierre Krähenbühl reinforced the urgent need for countries to return to respecting international laws and seek diplomatic solutions. Without a global effort to break the cycle of violence, the humanitarian crisis tends to worsen, leaving more and more communities in a situation of extreme vulnerability.
