Today's news: PSD elects new leaders and closes congress
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) concludes its national congress this Sunday in Anadia, in the Aveiro district. The event ends with the election of the new governing bodies and a speech by the party leader and Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro.
This 42nd PSD Congress is a central moment for national politics, serving to define the strategy of the party that leads the current Government of Portugal. During the day, delegates vote to choose the new faces of the party leadership. The closing will feature an intervention by Luís Montenegro, where the head of the executive is expected to outline political goals for the coming months and reinforce the party's position in the face of the country's challenges.
Parallel to the event, the national political debate focuses on the configuration of the right in Portugal. Analysts discuss the feasibility of future collaborations or alliances between wings of the PSD and other parties with parliamentary representation, such as Chega and the Liberal Initiative (IL), and the impact these dynamics may have on national political stability.
