The Israeli Foreign Ministry calls for action after the arrest of a Dutch teenager
A 15-year-old Dutch boy has been released after being arrested following a fight with Israeli tourists at the Center Parcs resort in Noord Brabant province. The decision came after a brief court session, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The incident began during a Paintball match at the resort when tensions escalated between two groups, resulting in injuries to two Israelis aged 37 and 41. The boy was arrested immediately and is now facing criminal charges, but the prosecution allowed him to await the investigation results at home.
Initially, reports indicated that the altercation may have included discriminatory statements. However, the Dutch public prosecutor's office clarified that after questioning the participants and witnesses, there is currently no "independent verification" of these allegations.
Despite this, the incident received extensive coverage in the international media as an example of violence against Israelis, raising diplomatic concerns. The attention was not limited to the violence itself but extended to the way it was portrayed abroad.
In response, the Israeli Foreign Ministry strongly reacted via social media, urging the Dutch government to "exercise restraint and act decisively to prevent attacks on Israelis on its territory, arrest the criminals, and bring them to justice." The investigation is still ongoing.
