Hundreds of Syrians left Germany with the help of BAMF
Although Germany is not currently forcibly deporting Syrian refugees, the federal government provides financial support for those who choose to return voluntarily. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) funds this return through dedicated programs.
In the period up to mid-April of this year, 464 Syrians left Germany with the help of the REAG/GARP program, which aims to facilitate the voluntary return of refugees and migrants by covering travel costs, providing financial assistance upon arrival, and even covering medical expenses if necessary.
In addition to this program, since 2017 there has been the option of voluntary departure supported by the German states, where individuals can request partial reimbursement of costs after their return, partially funded by BAMF. Last year, 87 people benefited from this system, and the year before that, 75 people.
Although deportation to Syria is still suspended due to the security and political situation in the country, the government encourages those who wish to return to take this step on their own through organized and safe channels.
