The Austrian People's Party launches a 'Zero Tolerance' campaign regarding deportation
The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) launched a new campaign under the slogan "Zero Tolerance," focusing particularly on the deportation of convicted criminals, including those coming from Syria and Afghanistan. This initiative comes at a time when Austria is struggling to find a balance between its national security and its international obligations.
According to the party, the campaign targets those "who reject our free society." The People's Party has launched advertisements across social media and a dedicated campaign website to spread its message. This move highlights a tougher stance on crime and immigration, reflecting increasing political pressure on security issues.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner, Integration Minister Claudia Plakolm, and Chancellor Christian Stocker are the most prominent faces supporting the campaign. Among the notable slogans are: "Set an example. Against false tolerance, and for Austria" and "Deport the convicts. Even to Afghanistan."
The Secretary General of the People's Party, Nico Marchetti, confirmed that the campaign prioritizes the safety of Austrians above all else. He said: "For the People's Party, the safety of Austrians is more important than protecting murderers and rapists from Syria or Afghanistan," emphasizing the party's strict approach.
This initiative is likely to spark controversy within Austria and across Europe, as it directly challenges the ongoing discussions about human rights, asylum policies, and the limits of deportation to conflict areas. But for the People's Party, the message is clear: the safety of citizens comes first.
