CNAS introduces the electronic identity card into the healthcare system
The National Health Insurance House (CNAS) has announced an important change for patients in Romania. Starting in the near future, the institution is introducing the use of the Electronic Identity Card (CEI) into the public healthcare system, thereby simplifying access to medical services for insured persons.
This measure aims to modernize the interaction between patients, doctors, and authorities. By integrating the CEI, insured persons will be able to prove their insured status and access prescriptions or medical referrals using a single document, which will gradually replace the current health card and provide a higher level of personal data security.
The implementation of this system will be carried out gradually at the national level. Authorities specify that, in the first stage, patients who already possess the new type of identity card will be able to benefit from the new functionalities in medical offices and pharmacies, without the need to present the classic health card.
For doctors, this change means a reduction in bureaucracy, as patient identity verification will be done more quickly through computer systems connected to the CNAS national platform. Furthermore, the aim is to reduce errors and fraud in the settlement of medical services.
In conclusion, the introduction of the electronic identity card represents an important step for the digitalization of the Romanian medical system. CNAS recommends that insured persons monitor the official website to find out when they will be able to use the new document at the medical facility where they are registered.
