Romania loses 770 million euros from the PNRR due to the deadlock over the salary law

Romania is facing a difficult situation regarding European funds after negotiations on the new salary law failed. The Mayor of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, officially announced that the discussions held between the main political parties did not lead to a concrete result, thus blocking an essential milestone in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Mediation efforts, which began as early as May, involved representatives of the governing coalition, namely the PSD and PNL. The purpose of these meetings was to find a political and social consensus for reforming the public sector salary system, a necessary condition for accessing the tranches of European money allocated to our country.

Due to the lack of this agreement, Romania risks losing the sum of 770 million euros. This money was intended for important investments for the country's development, and the failure to fulfill the reform assumed through the PNRR puts pressure on the state budget and on the authorities' ability to implement the planned projects.

The failure of these negotiations highlights the political difficulties encountered in the reform process. Currently, the authorities must find quick solutions to unblock the situation and avoid additional financial losses that could affect the national economy in the long term.
