Romanian authorities discuss combating fake news with TikTok
Representatives of the Ministry of Environment and authorities in Romania recently held an official meeting with the TikTok Romania team. The main topic of the discussions was the spread of false information, known as "fake news," in the digital space of our country.
Diana Buzoianu, a representative of the authorities, drew attention to the risks that disinformation can pose to users. She emphasized that social media platforms have a major responsibility in verifying content that goes viral and can mislead the public.
During the meeting, the way TikTok's algorithms function and how stricter measures can be implemented to limit the spread of fake news were analyzed. Romanian authorities want closer collaboration with the platform to protect users, especially young ones, from harmful or manipulated content.
TikTok representatives discussed current content moderation policies and the tools they have available to report and remove false information. Both parties agreed that user safety must remain a priority in the online environment.
This dialogue marks an important step in Romania's efforts to better regulate the virtual space. The authorities continue to monitor the situation and seek solutions to ensure a safer and more informed digital environment for all citizens.
