The Chamber of Deputies has adopted important amendments to the ANI law

The Chamber of Deputies of Romania has recently adopted a series of legislative amendments targeting the activity of the National Integrity Agency (ANI). This decision comes as a result of a ruling issued by the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR), which requested the adjustment of the current legal framework to comply with constitutional norms.

The main change brought by the new law is the introduction of a special form for declaring public financial interests. The purpose of this document is to ensure greater transparency regarding the income and assets held by individuals occupying public positions in the Romanian state.

Another significant change concerns the obligations of officials' family members. According to the new version of the law, spouses and partners of individuals holding public office are no longer required to declare their assets and income in the same way as before. This measure has sparked heated discussions in the public sphere, being analyzed from the perspective of personal data protection.

Supporters of the new law state that these changes are necessary to clarify administrative procedures and to bring the legislation into line with the Constitutional Court's decisions. On the other hand, some experts and representatives of civil society have expressed concern that these amendments could reduce the efficiency of checks regarding the integrity of officials.

In the coming period, the law will be sent for promulgation, and it will enter into force after its publication in the Official Gazette. Authorities will need to adapt ANI's internal procedures to implement the new rules, while ensuring at the same time that the asset monitoring process remains functional.
