Medical personnel in Romania have launched a warning strike
Medical personnel in hundreds of hospitals across Romania recently went on a warning strike. This protest action was organized by health unions to draw attention to grievances regarding the new salary law.
Employees in the healthcare system argue that current salary regulations are not equitable and do not correctly reflect the efforts made by doctors, nurses, and auxiliary staff. They are calling on the authorities to renegotiate financial terms to ensure a decent income and to prevent specialists from leaving the country.
During the warning strike, activity in hospital units was partially limited. However, union representatives stated that medical emergencies were treated as a priority so as not to endanger patients' lives during these demonstrations.
In the event that negotiations with the Government do not lead to the desired results, the unions have already announced their intention to organize a general strike. This is scheduled for the 28th of the current month, at which point activity in hospitals could be suspended indefinitely.
The situation remains tense in the Romanian medical system, while patients and authorities await a quick solution. Representatives of the Ministry of Health are set to hold further discussions with union leaders to try to avoid a major shutdown in hospitals.
