Medical staff in Romania have launched a warning strike
Medical staff in hundreds of hospitals across Romania recently went on a warning strike. This protest action was organized by health unions to draw attention to grievances regarding the new salary law.
Employees in the public health system argue that the current legislative provisions do not provide the promised income and do not cover recent inflation. The protesters are demanding improved working conditions, as well as salaries that reflect the responsibility and effort put into daily medical activity.
During the warning strike, activity in medical facilities was partially affected, but emergencies were treated as a priority so as not to endanger patients' lives. Union members emphasized that patients should not suffer because of these tensions, but they believe the protest is the only way to be heard by the authorities.
In the event that negotiations with Government representatives do not lead to the desired results, the unions have already announced their intention to launch a general strike on the 28th of the current month. This measure could lead to major blockages in hospitals across the country.
Authorities from the Ministry of Health have stated that they are open to dialogue to find solutions to avoid escalating the conflict. Further discussions between officials and union leaders are expected to take place in the coming days to try to avoid a general strike.
