The challenges of menopause in Romania: Most women feel unprepared for the changes after 40
A recent study conducted in Romania reveals the difficulties faced by women going through menopause. Although 72% of women over the age of 40 state that they are informed about the subject, more than half of them, i.e., 52%, admit that they felt unprepared when they began to notice the first changes in their bodies.
The most frequent and difficult transformation mentioned by the study participants is weight gain. This physical change has a significant impact on mood, often leading to feelings of self-blame. Women tend to critically analyze their bodies, which adds additional emotional pressure during an already complex stage of life.
The research results highlight a discrepancy between the theoretical information that women possess and the practical experience of the transition to menopause. Although access to information is easier nowadays, managing symptoms and bodily changes remains a major challenge for a large part of the female population in our country.
Specialists point out that menopause is not just a medical issue, but also one that requires adequate psychological support. Understanding these biological processes is essential for women to be able to go through this period with less stress and better self-acceptance.
In conclusion, the study highlights the need for better communication between doctors and patients, as well as the need for deeper education about women's health. Overcoming stigma and self-blame is an important step toward improving the quality of life for women in Romania after the age of 40.
