The European Union invests 30 billion euros in artificial intelligence "gigafactories"
The European Union has recently launched an ambitious project through which it aims to build up to seven "gigafactories" dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) across member states. This initiative is part of a broader European strategy designed to accelerate technological development and reduce the continent's dependence on external solutions.
The total budget allocated for this program is 30 billion euros. The funds will be used to create the infrastructure necessary for large-scale data processing, thus providing European researchers and companies with the technical resources they need to innovate in the field of artificial intelligence.
The selection process has already begun, with the European Union launching an official bidding procedure for states interested in hosting these computing centers. Romania is among the countries analyzing the opportunity to participate in this program, given the potential of the local IT sector and the desire to attract major investments in cutting-edge technologies.
These AI factories will function as computing power hubs, capable of training complex artificial intelligence models. Through this investment, the EU hopes to become a global leader in the field, ensuring that the technology is developed in accordance with European standards regarding safety and ethics.
In the coming period, Romanian authorities will evaluate the conditions imposed by the European Commission to see if our country can become one of the key points of this European technological network. The success of this project could bring significant economic benefits and could stimulate digitalization at the national level.
