USR requests transparency from the National Integrity Agency regarding local and county councilors

The Save Romania Union (USR) made an official appeal on Tuesday to the National Integrity Agency (ANI) to clarify the situation of local elected officials in Romania. The party is asking the institution to publish a detailed list of the names of local and county councilors who are in a state of incompatibility with the office they hold.

According to Romanian legislation, a local elected official cannot simultaneously hold the position of councilor and other positions that could create a conflict of interest. USR representatives argue that transparency is essential for the proper functioning of public administration and for compliance with integrity standards in state institutions.

This initiative comes in the context where citizens have the right to know if the people they voted for are following legal rules. USR believes that publishing this data would help increase public trust in politicians and prevent potential abuses in the exercise of public mandates.

Up to this point, the National Integrity Agency has not provided an official response to the party's request. ANI is the institution responsible for verifying the assets and potential conflicts of interest of individuals holding public office in Romania.

This initiative remains an important topic for local political life, given the impact that councilors' decisions have on communities across the country. It remains to be seen whether ANI will act on this request and what measures will be taken in the case of officials found to be in a state of incompatibility.
