The extradition of Paul of Romania to the country has been postponed again
The extradition process of Paul of Romania has been postponed again by the authorities in Malta. He is currently in the custody of foreign authorities, having been placed on an international wanted list following his final conviction in the "Băneasa Farm" case.
The official reason for this delay is related to the need to analyze new documents submitted by the defense attorneys. The Maltese court decided that additional time is needed to verify all legal aspects before making a final decision regarding his transfer to Romania.
Paul of Romania was sentenced to prison for corruption offenses, being accused of influence peddling and complicity in abuse of office. After the sentence was pronounced, he left the country, later being located and detained on Maltese territory.
The Romanian authorities, through the Ministry of Justice, are continuing diplomatic and legal efforts to ensure his return to the country. Representatives of the Romanian state maintain that all procedures are in compliance with European legislation regarding international judicial cooperation.
The next hearing in this case has been set for the coming period, when the judges will decide whether all conditions for extradition have been met. The case remains a matter of public interest, given the importance of the file in which he was convicted.
