Medical first in Romania: Babeș-Bolyai University introduces a bachelor's degree in podiatry
Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca has announced the launch of the first bachelor's degree program in Romania dedicated to training specialists in podiatry. This initiative represents an important step for the Romanian medical system, given the growing need for specialized foot care.
Podiatry is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of foot and ankle conditions. Specialists in this field play an essential role in the care of patients with diabetes, contributing significantly to the prevention of serious complications, such as ulcerations or amputations.
The new study program will last four years and will provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to practice this profession at European standards. The first admission session for this university course is scheduled to take place in September 2026.
By introducing this specialization, Romania aligns itself with modern medical practices in the rest of Europe. Authorities and academic representatives hope that the training of qualified podiatrists will improve the quality of life for patients and reduce the pressure on other medical departments in hospitals across the country.
