Over 12,000 new Alzheimer's cases recorded last year in Romania
Recent data from the medical system show a worrying increase in the number of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's in our country. Last year, over 12,000 people received this diagnosis, highlighting the need for increased attention to mental health among the elderly population.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that directly affects quality of life. It manifests through gradual memory loss, thinking difficulties, and significant behavioral changes. As the disease progresses, patients lose their autonomy, requiring constant care from family or specialists.
Specialists warn that early diagnosis is essential for managing symptoms. Although there is not yet a treatment that completely cures this condition, early medical interventions can slow the progression of the disease and improve the patient's comfort. It is recommended that people who notice memory problems in family members seek a neurological consultation as soon as possible.
This situation represents a major challenge for the public health system in Romania. Authorities and non-governmental organizations emphasize the importance of correctly informing the population and providing support to families caring for Alzheimer's patients, in order to ensure a safe and dignified environment for them.
