Medical staff in Romania have launched a warning strike
Hundreds of hospitals across Romania were affected today by a warning strike of medical staff. Healthcare workers chose this form of protest to express their dissatisfaction with the new public sector salary law.
The protest took place in healthcare units in several counties, where employees interrupted their work for a limited period of time. They argue that the new salary regulations do not correctly reflect the responsibilities and effort put in by doctors, nurses, and auxiliary staff in their daily work.
Representatives of health unions stated that this strike is a warning signal sent to the authorities. They are requesting the resumption of negotiations to find solutions that will improve the incomes of employees in the healthcare system and ensure better working conditions.
Despite the protest, hospitals ensured emergency services and care for patients in critical condition, complying with the legislation in force. Hospital management tried to minimize the impact on patients, but routine activity was partially suspended for the duration of the protest action.
The situation remains tense, and the unions have announced that, if their demands are not taken into consideration, they could resort to more drastic forms of protest in the coming period. The authorities have not yet provided an official response regarding possible changes to the salary law.
