Drone attack at the border crossing between Ukraine and Romania
A drone attack targeted the Orlivka border crossing point, located on Ukrainian territory right at the border with Romania, during the night. This location is a strategic point for ferry transport, which connects the Ukrainian town of Orlivka with the Romanian town of Isaccea, in Tulcea County.
Local authorities and eyewitnesses reported loud explosions in the port area, caused by Russian drones. Images captured at the scene show significant material damage to the crossing point's infrastructure, with several buildings and waiting areas for vehicles crossing the Danube being affected.
Following this incident, ferry operations were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. Romanian authorities are closely monitoring the situation at the border, given the proximity of the attack to our country's territory and the risks involved in the ongoing military conflict in the immediate vicinity.
This event is part of a series of Russian attacks on port infrastructure in the Odesa region, which have frequently targeted transit zones on the Ukrainian bank of the Danube. Since the beginning of the conflict, the Isaccea-Orlivka crossing point has served as an essential route for the transport of goods and for the flow of refugees leaving Ukraine.
As of now, no casualties have been reported among Romanian citizens or the staff operating the ferry. Authorities recommend that those planning to transit through this area check the status of border crossings before setting off and follow the official instructions issued by the Border Police.
