Air alert near Romania's border: Spanish aircraft scrambled
The Romanian Ministry of National Defense recently announced an air alert in the Tulcea County area. Two F-18 fighter jets belonging to the Spanish Air Force were scrambled during Friday night to monitor an aerial target detected near our country's border.
This surveillance mission was triggered as a precautionary measure, in the context where the airspace in the proximity of the Romanian border was monitored to prevent any unforeseen incident. The Spanish aircraft are part of the air policing missions conducted under the aegis of NATO, aimed at ensuring the security of the Alliance's eastern flank.
Romanian authorities stated that the situation was managed according to standard safety procedures. Monitoring the national airspace remains a priority for the Ministry of Defense, especially during periods when tensions in the Black Sea region are high.
No incidents or violations of Romania's sovereign airspace were reported following this event. Allied air forces continue to patrol the region constantly, ensuring a rapid response in the event of detecting targets that could approach national borders dangerously.
The situation remains under control, and military authorities continue to carefully monitor developments in the border area. Citizens are assured that security measures are active and that the safety of the national territory is maintained through close collaboration with partners within NATO.
