Diesel prices fall in Romania: First excise duty reduction has come into effect
Starting Sunday, drivers in Romania are noticing the first changes at the pump, after the Government decided to reduce the excise duty on diesel. This measure was introduced to combat the rise in fuel prices, which has affected the budgets of many families and transport companies in recent times.
As a result of the application of the new regulations, the price of diesel has dropped below the threshold of 10 lei per liter at Petrom stations. This decrease is the result of a normative act that provides for successive adjustments to the excise duty over the next three months. During this interval, the tax will be reduced twice a month, with percentages ranging between 5% and 25%.
In concrete terms, this reduction means a decrease in the price at the pump by values between 14 and 70 bani per liter. Authorities hope that this measure will provide a breath of fresh air to the national economy, given that freight transport depends directly on the cost of fuel.
However, Romania still remains in the top half of the ranking of European states with the most expensive diesel. Although the measure is welcome for consumers, experts point out that the final price at the pump also depends on international oil quotes, which remain volatile in the current economic context.
In conclusion, drivers are advised to monitor price developments in the coming period, as excise duty reductions will be applied gradually. It remains to be seen how much this decision will influence inflation and the cost of living in Romania in the months to come.
