The European Union invests 30 billion euros in Artificial Intelligence "gigafactories"
The European Union has recently launched an ambitious project through which it aims to build up to seven "gigafactories" dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI) across European territory. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the community bloc to become globally competitive in the field of advanced technologies and data processing.
The budget allocated for this program amounts to 30 billion euros. The funds are intended for creating the necessary infrastructure for the development and training of AI systems, which require extremely high computing power. Through this endeavor, the EU seeks to reduce technological dependence on other major economic powers, such as the United States or China.
The selection process has already begun, with member states invited to submit bids to host these technology centers. Romania, as part of the European Union, is closely monitoring this opportunity. Romanian authorities are analyzing the possibility of participating in this program, given the high potential of our country's IT sector.
The implementation of these AI factories could bring significant economic benefits to the host countries, including the creation of highly skilled jobs and the stimulation of innovation in the academic and private sectors. Furthermore, the project could facilitate access for researchers and local companies to state-of-the-art computing resources.
In the coming period, the European Commission will evaluate the proposals received to decide the locations where these centers will be built. The success of this program is considered essential for Europe's digital future, providing a solid foundation for the development of technological solutions that will shape the economy in the years to come.
