Modernizing the medical system: 1,200 new ambulances for Romania through the PNRR
The emergency system in Romania is undergoing an important modernization phase. Authorities have announced the purchase of 1,200 new ambulances, intended for the County Ambulance Service (SAJ) and SMURD crews across the country.
This major investment, worth over 1.1 billion lei, is financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The main goal of this project is to improve the quality of medical services offered to citizens and to reduce response times in critical situations.
The new vehicles will be equipped with modern medical equipment, essential for providing first aid under optimal conditions. Replacing the old fleet is considered a necessity, given the large number of requests that medical crews receive daily throughout Romania.
The implementation of this program will contribute significantly to increasing patient safety and streamlining the work of medical personnel. Authorities estimate that the new ambulances will be distributed to territorial units in the coming period, as the procurement process is finalized.
Through this investment, Romania is taking an important step toward aligning with European standards in the field of emergency medical care. Modernizing the intervention fleet remains a priority to ensure faster and safer access to medical care for all Romanians.
