Romania switches to winter time: Clocks go back this weekend
On the night of Saturday to Sunday, October 25, 2026, Romania will officially switch to winter time. This annual change involves adjusting clocks to adapt to the period when natural sunlight is less present throughout the day.
Specifically, on that night, clocks will be set back by one hour. Thus, 04:00 will become 03:00. This modification means that we will benefit from an extra hour of sleep on Sunday morning, marking the transition to the winter schedule, which will remain in effect until the spring of next year.
The time change takes place synchronously in most European countries, with the aim of aligning human activities with natural light. Although discussions about eliminating this practice have been frequent at the European Union level in recent years, member states continue to apply this procedure until a common decision is reached.
For most modern electronic devices, such as smartphones or computers connected to the internet, the time update will happen automatically. However, analog clocks or other devices that are not connected to the network will have to be adjusted manually by users.
This time change can influence the biological rhythm of many people in the first few days after the switch. Specialists recommend an adaptation period, during which the body can gradually get used to the new schedule, to avoid feelings of fatigue or difficulties in concentrating.
