Two Russian citizens to stand trial for fraudulently obtaining Romanian citizenship
Romanian judicial authorities recently announced that two Russian citizens have been sent to trial, accused of obtaining Romanian citizenship through false statements. They are suspected of presenting documents that did not reflect reality in order to demonstrate their ties to our country, thereby violating the legislation in force regarding the acquisition of citizenship.
According to investigators, the two individuals submitted files to the National Authority for Citizenship, claiming to meet the necessary legal requirements. Following thorough checks carried out by state institutions, it was discovered that the information provided by them was false, the goal being to obtain a Romanian passport, which would have granted them the right to free movement within the European Union.
Prosecutors stated that this case is particularly serious because it undermines the integrity of the citizenship granting process. Currently, the file has been sent to the court, where the two accused will have to answer for their actions. If found guilty, they face prison sentences, and the citizenship obtained through fraud will be revoked.
This incident draws attention to the need for stricter controls in the verification process of files submitted by foreign citizens. Romanian authorities have given assurances that they will continue to carefully monitor all applications to prevent any attempt at fraud that could affect national security or Romania's status in the European space.
The case remains under the supervision of the authorities, who will provide further details as the trial progresses. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicion regarding illegal activities related to obtaining identity documents, thus contributing to maintaining legality in the country.
