Romania sends a new contingent of firefighters to Greece to support firefighting efforts
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) in Romania has recently sent its third contingent of firefighters to Greece. This mission is part of a European support effort aimed at helping Greek authorities in the fight against wildfires that frequently occur during the summer.
This collaboration has become a tradition, with Romania sending teams of rescuers to Greece every year since 2022. The decision to provide this aid follows official requests received through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which facilitates cooperation between European Union member states in crisis situations.
The teams sent consist of firefighters specialized in rapid intervention and forest fire management. They are equipped with high-performance vehicles capable of intervening in hard-to-reach areas, where fire can spread rapidly due to high temperatures and strong winds.
The presence of Romanian rescuers in Greece is appreciated by local authorities and affected communities. Through this gesture, Romania demonstrates solidarity with its European partners, actively contributing to the protection of the environment and the safety of citizens in the region during critical summer periods.
