Romanian drug manufacturers request special status to avoid supply crisis
The association of drug manufacturers in Romania has sent an official request to the Government, asking for production units to be included on the list of strategic consumers. This measure would guarantee the continuity of electricity supply for factories that produce essential treatments for patients.
Representatives of the pharmaceutical industry argue that electrical grid instability can lead to costly interruptions in the manufacturing process. Because drug production requires strict temperature and controlled environment conditions, any power outage can compromise entire batches of products, causing financial losses and risks to national stocks.
Currently, companies in this sector are facing major challenges due to high energy prices and the risk of disconnection during peak consumption periods. Manufacturers emphasize that medicines are essential goods, and patient safety depends directly on the ability of factories to operate without interruptions.
the Government is set to analyze this request to see if drug manufacturers can be included in the category of protected consumers. A favorable decision would provide stability to the sector and prevent potential drug shortages on the local market, while also ensuring a constant flow of treatments to hospitals and pharmacies.
