Healthcare projects via the NRRP: Only eight hospitals completed out of the 19 promised

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has drawn attention to significant delays in the implementation of medical infrastructure projects funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). The statement was made in the context of the inauguration of the new Cardiovascular Surgery Center within the 'Prof. Dr. C.C. Iliescu' Emergency Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases in Bucharest.

According to official data presented by the Prime Minister, Romania has so far managed to complete only eight of the 19 hospitals or medical units that were initially promised through this European program. This major discrepancy between the initial plans and the reality on the ground raises questions regarding the efficiency of managing the funds and resources available in recent years.

Ilie Bolojan emphasized that these delays have led to the loss of precious years, a period during which the Romanian medical system could have benefited from a much broader modernization. The official pointed out that bureaucracy and difficulties in project execution were the main obstacles that prevented the completion of all proposed objectives within the established deadlines.

Despite these challenges, the inauguration of the new surgical center represents an important step for patients with heart conditions, offering access to modern medical technology. However, the authorities are now under pressure to accelerate work on the remaining medical units so as not to risk losing the remaining European funding.

The situation of healthcare projects remains a subject of major interest for Romanian citizens, who are waiting for improvements in public hospital conditions. The government will need to find rapid solutions to unblock delayed investments and ensure the completion of the objectives assumed through the NRRP in the coming period.
