Protests in Romanian hospitals: Medical staff demand better wages
Dozens of doctors and nurses across the country went out in front of medical facilities today to protest. The action began at 09:00 and lasted for two hours, affecting the usual activity in several public hospitals, including the Floreasca Emergency Clinical Hospital in Bucharest.
The main grievance of healthcare system employees concerns the new salary law. Representatives of the Sanitas trade union claim that the current draft is unfavorable to medical staff and that it could lead to much worse conditions than those provided by previous legislation.
Union members warn that if their demands are not taken into account by the authorities, the protests could continue. They are calling for better recognition of their work and a salary reform that reflects the significant responsibilities that medical staff have every day.
For now, the Ministry of Health has not provided a detailed official response regarding the new requests from the unions. Patients are advised to check the status of hospitals before arriving for non-urgent consultations, in the context that protest actions could continue in the coming days.
