Romania risks losing hundreds of millions of euros in European funds due to political blockages
Romania is facing a major risk of losing 770 million euros from the funds allocated through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This critical situation has arisen in the context of prolonged political instability, which has hindered the adoption of essential laws requested by the European Union.
According to recent analyses, the legislative deadlock has halted the implementation of reforms necessary to unlock tranches of European money. The European Commission has set clear conditions for accessing these funds, and failure to meet deadlines due to internal political disputes puts planned investments for the country's modernization at risk.
Experts warn that the loss of these financial resources would have a negative impact on the national economy. PNRR funds are intended for strategic projects in areas such as infrastructure, digitalization, and the transition to green energy, which are essential for Romania's long-term development.
Currently, authorities in Bucharest are under pressure to find quick solutions to allow the legislative process to resume. Resolving the political crisis is considered the decisive step to avoid losing this money and to maintain the confidence of European partners in Romania's ability to fulfill its assumed commitments.
