Romania's Economy: How Romanians Live Compared to Other European Union Citizens
The latest economic data show the progress made by Romania within the European Union. Although our country has grown steadily in recent years, there are still significant differences compared to the European average regarding wealth and the population's standard of living.
Currently, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in Romania has reached 78% of the European Union average. This indicator measures total economic activity relative to the number of inhabitants. Even though the figure is below the European average, it represents a positive development compared to previous years, when Romania was at a much greater distance from the rest of the member states.
Another essential indicator for citizens is actual individual consumption, which better reflects the standard of living and purchasing power. In this regard, Romania fares much better, reaching 86% of the European average. This difference is explained by the fact that prices in Romania are generally lower than in the rest of Europe.
The fact that prices are low helps Romanians buy more goods and services with their income compared to citizens in countries where life is much more expensive. However, experts emphasize that this situation depends heavily on the stability of food and energy prices, which can quickly influence family budgets.
In conclusion, the data show a Romania that is gradually approaching European consumption standards. The main challenge for the future remains increasing productivity and investment, so that the economy can sustain a high standard of living in the long term without depending solely on low prices.
