Health warning in Romania: West Nile virus remains active due to high temperatures
Although we are in the middle of the autumn season, unusually high temperatures continue to favor mosquito activity. Health authorities in Romania warn that these insects remain dangerous to the population, as they are the primary vectors for the transmission of the West Nile virus.
According to recent official data, the epidemiological situation is being closely monitored nationwide. To date, 83 cases of infection with this virus have been reported in Romania, a figure that underscores the need to maintain precautionary measures despite the change of season on the calendar.
Unfortunately, the consequences of these infections have been serious for some patients. Authorities have confirmed 5 deaths caused by complications resulting from the West Nile virus. Public Health Directorates, such as the one in Sibiu, emphasize that the risk of transmission persists as long as the weather remains warm.
To protect themselves, citizens are advised to use insect repellent substances and wear long-sleeved clothing in areas with dense vegetation. It is also recommended to install protective screens on windows and eliminate stagnant water around homes, where mosquitoes lay their eggs.
Specialists recommend that the population seek medical attention immediately if symptoms such as high fever, intense headaches, or confusion occur. Continuous monitoring of the evolution of this virus remains a priority for the country's medical authorities until the first frost arrives.
